“cupsogue is the westernmost 4x4 beach access on the south fork and the one that reviewers consistently call the most beginner-friendly for off-road beach driving — the sand is soft and forgiving compared to the stonier beaches further east, the outer beach beyond the 4x4 checkpoint stretches for miles with no crowds, and the harbor seal watching from the beach in winter is a genuinely wild bonus you can reach without walking more than half a mile from wherever you park your rig. you need a suffolk county green key card and a valid 4x4 beach permit (purchased at the entrance booth), your vehicle must have 4-wheel drive and cleared the basic safety check, and you air down before the gate. the park has clean bathrooms, showers, and a small shop — all the pre-drive logistics sorted in one spot.”
