ok so here's the thing about the hamptons that nobody in the influencer content is telling you: if you have a 4x4, a truck, a jeep, or literally any vehicle with real clearance to and a locking differential, you have access to a completely different version of this place. while everyone else is stuck in traffic on 27 trying to find parking at main beach, you can air down your tires to 15 psi, roll through a beach gate with a permit sticker on your windshield, and drive 3 miles down an empty stretch of south shore sand to set up literally wherever you want — no beach blanket competition, no umbrella politics, just open beach, surf fishing, a cooler in the back, and the atlantic. the hamptons off-road circuit runs from smith point and cupsogue beach in westhampton all the way to the end of the island at hither hills and the 4x4 access roads at montauk point — and the key to all of it is the suffolk county green key card or the state parks empire pass and the right air-down pressure before you hit the sand. this guide covers every permitted 4x4 beach, every county and state park access point, the best fishing and camping spots you can only reach by driving on the beach, and what you actually need to know so you don't get your rig stuck at low tide and have to call a tow. air down, lock in, go.
